What?

The interdisciplinary Research Training Group (RTG) 1808 “Ambiguity – Production and Perception” Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen offers a PhD Position (TV-L E13, 65%). The maximum period of employment is three years. Females are particularly encouraged to apply. The required field includes Language and Cultural Studies, Law, Economics, and Social Sciences and Arts, Music and Sport.

What is required?

The discipline of the applicants consist of English Literary Studies, English Linguistics, German Literary Studies, German Linguistics (including Psycholinguistics), Legal Studies, Classical Philology, Cognitive Modelling; Psychology, General Rhetoric, Romance Linguistics, Protestant Theology (New Testament). Doctoral students are expected to contribute to the interdisciplinary activities of the RTG, including the TInCAP database of ambiguity phenomena.

Applications should be either in German or English and should include cover letter, a research proposal (maximum 5 pages), signed CV, University degrees and transcripts of individual grades as well as one letter of recommendation and the names and email addresses of two further referees (university professors) are to be sent in digital form (one pdf document) by November 30, 2017, under the reference RTG “Ambiguity: Production and Perception” to the speaker of the

the AGORA Team is pleased to offer an online course for AGORA (Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture), one of the four programmes of Research4LifeThe online course – provided by the Partnerships and South-South Cooperation Division (DPS) at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN).   The course will help you improve your competence and ability in accessing relevant and timely global online resources in agricultural research.

Who?

The course targets researchers, academics, research officers, librarians, IT specialists, other practitioners and students from AGORA eligible institutions in eligible countries. Anyone working or studying in agricultural and related sciences can apply for the course. Priority is given to anyone from Research4Life eligible countries, Group A and Group B respectively.

How?

By submitting this online form, applicants DECLARE that their supervisor/manager/the person – to whom they report at their workplace – approves their participation in the “Fundamentals of Information Literacy and Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture” Online Course and allows them to dedicate about 15 hours in total during the two weeks of the course.

Tailored opportunities: IUFRO Young scientists initiative- Short research visit to European Institutions

What?

The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) will offer up to five grants of up to EUR 5 000 annually for Short Scientific Visits specifically for Early Career Scientists affiliated with IUFRO Member organisations. These Visits will provide a unique opportunity for young scientists from Africa, Asia and Latin America to visit a European forest research organisation and conduct a scientific collaboration with a young scientist from the respective host organisation.

The four-year programme is divided into a pre-doctoral year followed by three years of PhD training at one of the four Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Centers embedded at the University of Copenhagen or the Technical University of Denmark. The centers are Danish Stem Cell Center, Center for Protein Research, Center for Biosustainability and Center for Basic Metabolic Research

What is required?

  • Send completed application via the Novo Nordisk Foundation web-based application system before the deadline.
  • Provide two or more academic references
  • University degree from outside of Denmark that qualifies the applicant to enter a PhD in the country where the degree was obtained.
  • The applicant should have proof of English skills either of the following tests TOEFL, IELTS, GRE scores

Selection requirement

Selection is based on academic achievements, research experience, academic references and interviews. A mandatory interview visit for up to 40 shortlisted applicants comprises panel interviews, one-on-one meetings with potential supervisors, and tours of the four Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Centers, and will take place in Copenhagen in March 2018.

Benefits?

The Novo Nordisk Foundation will pay for travel and accommodation for selected applicants in association with the interview visit.

The programme offers support finding accommodation in the city centre of Copenhagen for the first year.

Full salary and tuition fee will be covered by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Funding for the first year is awarded unconditionally to all successful applicants. Funding for the following three years is awarded conditionally, to be approved following a successful qualifying assessment at the end of the first (pre-doctoral) year. Up to sixteen positions will be funded for a programme start in September 2018. Applicants of all nationalities may be awarded funding, provided they fulfill all of the eligibility criteria.

What?

The International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA) is a collaborative platform for policy makers, practitioners, national academies, and academics to share experience, build capacity and develop theoretical and practical approaches to the use of scientific evidence in informing policy at all levels of government.

In line with this mission, INGSA is offering six professional development and research grants (up to 15,000 Euro each)  to support early-to-mid career researchers or policy practitioners in Low and Middle Income Countries.  The grant can be used for both the research and research related expenses such as travel, conference attendance etc. Each grant recipient will manage and conduct a project of their choice in line with the priority research theme outlined in the Call for Applications. Successful applicants will become INGSA Research Associates for the period of the grant (March 2018 – February 2019).

Who?

  • Applicants should be PhD holders, Nationals of least developed countries, currently working in a national university, research institute or other organizations where the project is proposed to be undertaken
  • Applicants should have experience in the use of science in public policy or government advising

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for the 2018 Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program. The program offers training and collaborative research opportunities to scientists, researchers, and policymakers from 40 eligible countries. Fellows will work one-on-one with a mentor at a U.S. university, research center, or government agency, usually for 8-12 weeks. The U.S. mentor will later visit the fellow’s home institution to continue collaboration.

The African Leaders of Tomorrow (ALT) Scholarship Program commemorates the late Nelson Mandela’s commitment to social justice and equity. It supports young African professionals to become leaders in public policy and administration. The ALT Scholarship Program grants full scholarships based on merit to women and men from sub-Saharan Africa to pursue a Master’s degree in public administration, public policy or public finances in Canada

Who?

  • A citizen AND resident of sub-Saharan Africa;
  • Between 22 and 35 years old (at the beginning of the study program);
  • Have completed a university degree meeting the minimum academic requirements for admission into a Master’s degree in Canada (a minimum average of B [75%] – check equivalencies on the right handside of this page);
  • Have a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years of full-time work experience in the public sector, civil society sector or a research institute in Africa;
