Tailored opportunities: PhD position in in Animal Cognition and Personality at the University of Antwerp, Belgium


The Functional Morphology Lab studies the evolution of complex animal traits. In this particular project, we aim to understand how and why behavioural characteristics and cognitive capacities of lizards differ between island and mainland environments.

Job description

  • You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of Biology.
  • You publish scientific articles related to the research project of the assignment.
  • You contribute to teaching and research in Department of Biology, Faculty of Sciences, Laboratory for Functional Morphology.


Profile and requirements

  • You hold a master degree in Biology.
  • You can submit outstanding academic results.
  • Students in the final year of their degree can also apply.
  • Foreign candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy.
  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.
  • You have a strong background and interest in ecology and evolutionary biology.
  • You are acquainted with techniques for quantifying and analysing animal behaviour and morphology.
  • You are willing to carry out fieldwork abroad.


Deadline for application is  August 11th 2019

  • A pre-selection will be made from amongst the submitted applications. The remainder of the selection procedure is specific to the position and will be determined by the selection panel.
