Tailored opportunities: PhD student in Evaluating sediment Delivery Impacts on Reservoirs in changing climaTe and society across scales and sectors at University of Innsbruck Innsbruck, Austria

The overall project focus is on the potential increase of erosion and sediment transport in catchments where the excess of sediment could lead to losses in reservoir storage. Consequences such as higher demands for resources due to altered operation, changes in reservoir services to society such as hydropower production are analyzed. In the Austrian part of the project, the focus is on alpine catchments as test cases. Therein, a mix of monitoring and modelling based approaches are to be applied, aiming to assess current sediment fluxes and their future changes. Duties in frame of the project are ;Covering the relevant aspect with regard to scientific approach set in the project ;Publication of outcomes in reports and scientific journals; Presentations at project meetings and conferences  Support in the project administration ;Travelling to project meetings, workshops and conferences; We offer the possibility to conduct a PhD in Technical Science (condition for the admission are separate from this position)

Master degree relating to the fields of Hydrology, Sediment transport and management, Water and/or Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or any equivalent; Knowledge in hydrology and / or sediment transport or willingness to acquire; High motivation, teamwork capabilities and communication skills (written and oral); Excellent knowledge In English; German language is beneficial as interaction with stakeholders is part of the project; Background in sediment transport and/or hydrological / hydraulic modelling; Programming skills (e.g. Matlab, Python, R), experience with GIS systems is advantageous

The review process will start 31 August 2019
