Tailored Opportunities: Agricultural Research and Innovation Fellowship for Africa(ARIFA) Next Generation of Africa’s AR4D Practitioners


ARIFA is capacity development component of Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) that involve on the Holistic Empowerment for Livelihoods Program (HELP). It aims to produce a new generation of fit-for-purpose workforce to re-engineer African Agri-food sector to provide change factor for rapid agricultural transformation in the next 10 years, using the Integrated Agricultural Research for Development (IAR4D) approach. Qualified Africans will be trained in ARIFA affiliated Universities and AR4D centers such as Brazil, China, Cuba, India, Italy and the Netherlands. Training comprises MSc level that include 1. Land and Water Resources Management: Irrigated Agriculture 2. Precision Integrated Pest Management for Fruit and Vector Vegetables 3. Mediterranean Organic Agriculture and Advanced Short course such as Sustainable Development of Coastal Communities and Innovation & Youth Entrepreneurship in the Mediterranean Agri-food Sector


Applicant should be citizen in anyone of Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Niger, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. There is no age limit for short courses, but for MSc male and females should be 30 and less 35 years of age respectively. Applicant should hold at least bachelor’s degree from University. Record of engagement and contribution to solving agricultural problems will have an extra advantage. Must be committed to participate in an Alumni network of FARA IAR4D practitioners under FARA.

MSc level and Advanced Short course in Agricultural Research and Innovation qualified and eligible candi­dates will be provided with fully funded, this include air travel from home country to CIHEAM-Bari, subsidized/waived tuition fee and a monthly stipend.
